Aija Priede-Sietina is an architect who, along with her husband and designer Daneks Sietins, created the Kukuu brand. They are parents to two young children and after their first child, they realized that the furniture that was designed for children was a bit boring and didn’t tickle the baby´s creativity and awareness. They then decided to create furniture based on what they had seen in their first child experience and Kukuu Furniture was born. Kukuu´s furniture understands the inner world of a child and gives them the opportunity to play using their creativity without suppressing their power of perception.
Have you ever bought a candle form MunioCandela? Those special candles that tell a story and are not even close to ordinary are made in Latvia. And yes, the owner and founder is a woman by the name of Elina Čīma. Their candles , for example, tell stories about nature and Latvian folklore. In her own words “We look at candles slightly differently. In addition to light and warmth, they must also confer other qualities. Madara cosmetics goal is “to provide as many women in the world as possible with the opportunity to use natural, effective and safe cosmetics.” Its founder and co-owner Lotte Tisenkopfa-Iltnere says that in Latvia there are many trees and plants which are chemically active and very valuable for human health and that’s why, side by side with a team of scientists, they have used these properties and continue to study many plants found in Latvia and its surroundings. Lotte started this idea with three more friends after finding out about the harmful ingredients cosmetics have and wanting to promote a natural lifestyle which meant a greener, more beautiful, cleaner and safer life. Their Main export countries are Finland, Japan, Denmark and Switzerland.
There is also a company from Latvia that produces stylish hand bags for women with cameras. The company is called Pompidoo and as the owner and director Irina Kuzmina describes it “it is a brand for camera bags that look smart and stylish, colorful and creative. At the same time the bags are highly functional and convenient”. Pompidoo bags are exported to 27 countries, including Northern Europe and to exotic markets like the United Arab Emirates, Australia and New Zealand. The camera bags are hand made in Riga paying really close attention to detail. As it was created by two women, one from Riga and the other one from Zurich, they try to respect what other women would like to carry as their handbags or their camera equipment bag.
Latvia is starting to get a lot of attention from Europe and the world. Many products are made and exported from Latvia and now are being sold worldwide. Women are also part of this new trend of Latvian products that is spreading around Europe, and are changing Latvian women stereotype forever. They are the proof that Latvian women are more than your average beautiful girl in the the dating sites highly promoted around the world, they are also successful entrepreneurs that are invading the world with their views and ideas, and are making some money while they are at it.
